E. M. Forster, Howards End

This is one of the finest novels I ever read. EM Forster is a very sensitive writer at all times, but this book is – for me – the best. The confrontation between the Schlegel family, standing for culture and sensitivity but also for futility, and the Wilcoxes, personifying international commerce, money, power and callousness is the central theme of the book. The writer does not condemn, he understands many things and describes what can happen in such a culture clash.
